APEX Motorcycle Training in Stockport: The Law and Your Motorcycle Training,
Motorcycle Test and Motorcycle Licence.
If you want to ride a moped on the road at 16 you need:
1, A provisional licence
2, Take a CBT (compulsory basic training) course. When you have completed and passed this course,
then you can ride a moped with a maximum speed of 30mph for 2 years with L plates.
If you want to ride with out L plates, in addition to the above you need to:
1, Take a theory test.
2, Take a practial test two part test.( module1 & module 2)
Remember when you have passed this test you can't ride anything execpt a moped without L plates.
At 17 if you want to ride a motorcycle you need:
1, To hold a provisional licence with mototrcycle entitlement, or a full car licence, or to have previously passd a full moped test.
2, Take a CBT (compulsory basic training) course. This will allow you to ride a motorcycle of 125cc or below for 2 years with L pates.
The motocycle is restricted to11kw or 14bhp.
If you want to ride without L plates, carry a passenger & ride on the motorway you need to:
1, Take a theory test.
2, Take a practical two part test (Module 1 & module 2)
Pass your test on a motorcycle between 120cc & 125cc you can then ride a motorcycle with a power out put no greater than 25kw or 33bhp.
(almost any motorcycle can be restricted talk to your dealer.)
After 2 years you can ride any motorcycle without restrictions.
But take your test on a motorcycle between 75cc & 120cc you can only ride up to 125cc.
Want to be able to ride any motorcycle? You will need Direct Access (DAS)
To do this you need to be lat least 21 years old and:
1, Hold a provisional licence with motorcycle entitlement,or a full car licence, or a full motorcycle licence.
2, Take a CBT (compulsory basic training) course.
You can now ride a 125cc bike on the road with L plates for 2 years. While you a doing training towards your test you can ride a larger machine on the road,
BUT you must be accompanied by a qualifed instructor, AND be in radio contact.
3, Take a theory test.
4, Take a practical two part test (module1 & module 2) on a machine of at least 35kw or 46.6bhp.
You can now ride any motorcycle.
